Missing the north country like the Dakotas and upstate NY would be a shame. Also, a trek through the Smoky and Blue Ridge Mts. is warrented. Believe me it's better than plastic Vegas. Hit some of the back streets too or you will miss an awful lot.

CANADIAN ROUTE EAST

This might be a very scenic route, but it certainly will be longer then going south into the states and going east to Buffalo/Niagara Falls and then going up to Toronto The problem with the Canadian route is that you’ll have to go north to get around Lake Superior, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay and the roads are certainly not as good as the US Interstates. If you decide to go east this way however, I’m sure it will be beautiful and a memorable experience.

1. Vancouver to Calgary – about 970 Kilometers or 580 miles
A long trip for on day, but are small towns along the way if you decide you’ve had enough !! You’ll be passing through Yoho Nat’l Park and Banff Nat’l Park.

2. Calgary to Regina –
about 780 kilometers or 470 miles. It is the capital city of Saskatchewan and there are several motels there!!! Population is around 200,000. Your guess is a good as mine. Looks like just very small towns along the way. If you like looking at farm land and grazing animals, it seems like it will be interesting.

3. Regina to Winnipeg –
About 570 kilometers or 342 miles. Population around 600,000 and Manitoba’s largest city. One of Canada’s major cultural centers.

4. Winnipeg to Thunder Bay – About 700 kilometers or 420 miles. Population about 120,000. On Lake Superior and appears to be a very scenic city.

5. Thunder Bay to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario –
About 700 kilometers or 420 miles. Population is about 75,000. This is a tough one, but I don’t see another place to stop for the night. On Lake Superior it is probably a beautiful spot. The Soo Locks which allow ships to travel between Lale Superior and the Lower Great Lakes. There is a full casino right across the International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

6. Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to Sudbury, Ontario - about 300 kilometers or 180 miles. Population around 160,000. A relatively short drive but there doesn’t seem to be another place to stay and Toronto is a long haul. The Science North and Dynamic Earth Buildings look very interesting. There is also a Harness Racetrack there, although it is closed because of a Horsemen’s dispute.

7. Sudbury, Ontario to Toronto, Ontario - About 387 kilometers or 232 miles.

Did I pass the course?
